Just Desserts- A Recipe for Romance

Just Desserts is available to buy, peruse and read. Here’s the bad news, there are no recipes. No biggie, but I don’t want to create any false expectations. There’s a diner, a kitchen, and lots of heat, but no recipes. The only recipe is one for romance! Just Desserts…Enjoy!         http://www.amazon.com/Just-Desserts-Tricia-Quinnies http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/just-desserts-tricia-quinnies

August is Read-a-Romance Month

I fully agree with Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Life’s too short to read depressing books. The last days of summer are perfect for reading a romance. There’s a choice for every reader out there looking for a story that will suck us in, make us laugh or shed a tear. The heart of a romance is the beauty of the romance and it’s all about the emotion. There’s nothing more satisfying than following a heroine or hero and feeling their trials and tribulations on the road to happiness. My personal choice is the happy ending, but I’m …read more…

Motivator #3–Writing Conferences

As the big one has kicked off this past week in San Antonio, Texas  I have to reveal the truth. I’m jealous. I’m not proud of it, but I’m admitting it. I’ve had to refrain from Twitter. I’ve paused before hitting “Like” at the many pics being posted by my WisRWA writer colleagues on Facebook. For romance writers of all kinds, this conference is the Cadillac of conferences. It’s work and fun and a whole lot of it.  You have the opportunity to come face to face with authors and go all fan girl. It’s exciting when you meet writers that …read more…

Motivator #2–Jumping out of Your Head

I’m always on the hunt for ways to stay motivated. The writer in me has to work hard to come out every day and get the words on paper. But there are always distractions and interruptions. They take me away from my sure-to-be next great sentence. I’m pretty certain that if it weren’t for those “dang kids” I would  have written that one sentence of pure genius or hilarity. The one that my readers would “ooh” and “aah” over…for years to come. Thankfully most of those brilliant, but broody thoughts don’t make it on the page. Instead of going on …read more…

The Writing Process–Staying Motivated and The Buddy System

At the last conference I went to in Madison, Nathan Bransford presented a workshop on writing a novel. He spoke of the many pieces of the puzzle that turn an idea into an entire book. Much of his presentation resonated with me, but a light bulb went on in my head when he said, “I tend not to trust writers that profess how much they love to write.” I don’t want to misquote Mr. Bransford, but what stuck with me was this, “Writing is hard. I don’t always like to write, but I like reading what I’ve written.” So …read more…

UW Writers Conference Madison

The 25th Annual Writers’ Conference—Madison Michael Perry, Nathan Bransford, Christine DeSmet and Kimberli Bindschatel were just a few of the fab writers that converged at the Concourse Hotel this past weekend. Writer’s descended on the city in droves and made it a match for the swarms of fans who came to cheer on the Badgers basketball team play in the Final Four. The keynote speaker, Michael Perry started off the convention for me. Population 485 is one of my favorite books, so I had to see him speak. He was worth the early morning drive to Madison. Not only is he a …read more…
